Class of '91

30th Reunion

at the 2021 Alumni Homecoming Weekend

Sept 24-26, 2021

(you will need to register for homecoming first.  Dinner sign-up is in the process)

If you haven't been paying attention, yes, it was 30 YEARS AGO that we graduated from the Wick!  This is the reunion where we start to think about what Norwich meant to each of us individually and we start to build a legacy in honor of the time we spent within the hallowed halls of school.

We created this quick site to give you information you need to know about Homecoming.  And this year we have created some really cool, special and meaningful Class Favors.  We're taking a little different road since we are the Class of '91.
Lastly, we are supporting three initiatives to honor each other in our class, honor Colonel Donovan, and to honor classmates who have passed and cannot be with us on the Hill.

Amazing Class Favors!

We have four options for class favors for this year's reunion.  A Special Edition Whiskey called "Alden's Spirit"; a Class of '91 edition Gin made by  '89 grad Keith Berg; a 30th Reunion Maple Syrup; and Class of 91 gear.

Establishing Our Legacy

We are supporting three initiatives for our Class Gift to the University.  We have established a Class of 1991 Scholarship which will give to future generations of cadets.  We are also purchasing memorial bricks for our   8 rook buddies who have passed.   And lastly we are helping to honor Colonel Donovan with a Valor Exhibit in his honor.

Reunion Dinner

It wouldn't be a reunion if we did not take time to get together to see old friends.   We have a special dinner planned at Rumble's Kitchen at Sugarbush on Saturday night.  Advanced purchase of tickets is required so please sign up soon.

1991 Class Reunion Favors

"Alden's Spirit" Special 1991 Reunion Release

We worked with Hooker Mountain Farm Distillery in Cabot, Vermont to create something really special for our reunion.  They have created a limited edition- single barrel release of their Rye Whiskey for our class.  We can tell you from expert Norwich taste buds that it's delicious!   Get a bottle or two for now, and then one as a keepsake.   The price per bottle is $35 each (a really good price).  Pre-orders absolutely required.  Deadline is September 1st.  You can pick it up on campus during homecoming.  Hooker Mountain cannot ship.  If you need it shipped we will work something out at added cost.

Stonecutter Gin Special 1991 Reunion Edition

Good 'ol Keith Berg, Class of 1989, and his brother Matt (Annapolis '92) purchased the Stonecutter Gin Company last year (2020).   This is the gin that they fell in love with during their many trips to Vermont (and we understand why, it's exceptional!)  When they found out the award winning distillery was closing its doors due the founder's retirement, they sprung into action and purchased it.   Keith & Matt have worked closely with us to create specially packaged 1991 Reunion Edition, at a very special price too (20% off store price).  The price per bottle is $40 each. Pre-orders absolutely required.  Deadline is September 1st.  You can pick it up on campus during homecoming.  Stonecutter can ship through a distributor at regular retail price.

Class of '91 30th Reunion Maple Syrup

Who doesn't love real maple syrup?  We have worked with Mahar Farms in Middletown Springs, VT to create a commemorative 30th Reunion bottle of Vermont Maple Syrup. This premium syrup will be available for pick-up at the school during Alumni Weekend.  The cost per bottle of syrup is $8, which if you know anything about the cost of syrup in stores, is a great price.  Deadline is September 1st.

If you need it shipped we will work with you on this.  We can also potentially bundle together shipping if you purchase the "Alden's Spirit" Whiskey as well.

Class of '91 Swag

And of course, we have our Class of 91 Norwich clothing options too.   This year we selected a slouch ball cap, and a fleece pullover, both which will be specially customized to our class.   The ball cap will have multiple color options.

You can purchase your merchandise directly through the ecommerce site of the bookstore by following the below link.  Choose the 1991 tab. Be sure to do so as soon as possible in order to receive your merchandise in time for Homecoming.

1991 Class Gifts to the University

The 30th Reunion is a monumental moment in the lifecycle of an Alumni Class.  It is the reunion where we start to reflect on the "good 'ol days" and what the University meant to each of us personally and as a class.   We all look fondly back on those days.   We are also at a point in life where we have been in our careers for many years (those who have served our military, police forces, and other public service have likely retired, or are considering it soon), and many of us have our own kids in or who have graduated from college.     It is an interesting period of transition and change in all our individual lives.    So as we sit down to think what this 30th Reunion means to each of us, we likewise need to think about what we want the legacy of the Class of 1991 to be in Norwich.    As a reunion committee we pondered this question of legacy long and hard..  We have talked to many of you, our classmates, about thoughts and ideas.   We finally settled on two official initiatives we want to support as a Class, not only now, but for all future reunions as well.  You can read about these below.     In addition, this year we are "unofficially" supporting a third initiative, to help honor a man that we all have looked up to during our years at Norwich, our Commandant, Colonel Tim Donovan.   He is being honored this year with a Valor Exhibit at the Sullivan Museum.   We hope you will participate in our official or unofficial initiatives this year.  And for those who have already participated, THANK YOU!

Class of 1991 Scholarship for Deserving Corps Students

We spent a lot of time thinking about how we could honor our entire class long into the future.   We didn't want to just create a marble bench, or some other trinket.   Instead we wanted to find something that could "Pay It Forward" to future generations of the University.  We wanted to find something that we could continually contribute to reunion after reunion.  So after much deliberation we decided to establish the "Class of 1991 Scholarship."  This scholarship will be awarded yearly to an upperclass student in the Corps with expressed need, and who maintains high academic standards.

Bricks on the UP for
Fallen Rook Buddies

We also spent time deliberating on how we could honor our Rook Buddies who have unfortunately have passed.   As of this current date, 8 Rook Buddies are no longer with us.   We are honoring their memory by purchasing a Brick on the UP in their name.    Our intention is every five years we will purchase bricks for those who pass in that span between reunions, until our entire class is eventually honored.    But be warned, whoever is the last surving member of our class needs to make sure the legacy is complete!

The amount needed for current bricks will be taken out of this year's overall class gift.

Colonel Tim Donovan Valor Exhibit

We all have a special place in our heart for our beloved Commandant, Col. Tim Donovan.  For those of us who marched down to his house on the eve of the first Persian Gulf War, who can forget his empathetic leadership and poise, when we wanted to lash out at the world around us.  He is an American Hero and an Amazing Leader, and is being justly honored with a Valor Exhibit at the Sullivan Museum this homecoming.   89% of the money has been raised but this initiative needs your help.

During Giving Day, Ed Sullivan shot this video which explains the Class Gifts in more detail.
